Journalist: Arsenal can now sign N’Golo Kante like West Ham target for £22m in January

Arsenal have been told they can sign West Ham target Danilo from Palmeiras in January if they bid €25m (£22m).

That is according to Jorge Nicola, with the Brazilian journalist claiming that Palmeiras are now open to selling the 21-year-old this winter after he helped them win the Série A title.

Well, it was UOL who revealed that West Ham also want to sign Danilo.

However, Nicola has referenced a £22m summer bid from Arsenal, and has now claimed that the same offer should be enough to tempt Palmeiras into a sale this January.

Speaking on YouTube, Nicola said: “If this proposal is repeated, Palmeiras should end up negotiating the athlete.”

Now, you may wonder why the Brazilian champions are now happy to accept the exact same fee they rejected a few months ago, but it is quite simple.

The domestic season in Brazil was still ongoing during the European transfer window, so Palmeiras did not want to sell a key player while they were in the middle of a title charge.

Now, after winning Série A, they are open to cashing in on the tenacious South American, who has been compared to N’Golo Kante.

Arsenal need Danilo

Whether it’s Youri Tielemans, Danilo or another midfield target, Mikel Arteta needs a new midfielder in January.

If anything is going to cost Arsenal in the Premier League title race, it is their lack of midfield depth.

Arteta only has Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and the struggling Albert Sambi Lokonga in terms of those who sit and screen the back four, with the likes of Martin Ødegaard used higher up the pitch.

With so many fixtures to come after the World Cup, injuries are bound to happen, and Arteta needs at least one new option to compete with Manchester City, who have an embarrassment of riches.

For example, Pep Guardiola spent £45m on Kalvin Phillips just to play deputy to Rodri in defensive midfield.
