Jose Mourinho has shared his thoughts on Manchester United after his former club suffered their worst Premier League campaign in 2024/25.
Ruben Amorim is heading into a pivotal season at Manchester United. The Portuguese manager’s first six months at the club were far from smooth, and he’ll be hoping for a better start now that he’s had time to settle in.

Last season’s struggles are still fresh, with United finishing 15th in the league and falling short in the Europa League final against Tottenham.
Amorim wasn’t able to turn things around quickly after replacing Erik ten Hag in October, and there will be even more pressure this year if results don’t improve early on.
The pre-season schedule began with a goalless draw against Leeds in Sweden, before the squad headed to the United States to continue their preparations.
Jose Mourinho shares strong opinion on Sir Jim Ratcliffe
It’s been over a year since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner at United.
Ratcliffe, even as a minority stakeholder, has put Ineos in charge of football operations. They’ve led major decisions around recruitment and the potential redevelopment of Old Trafford.
But Jose Mourinho has questioned whether Ratcliffe has the experience needed to make the right changes at the club.
Mourinho is familiar with managing United during tough times. He fell out with former chief executive Ed Woodward and was dismissed in 2018 after collecting just 26 points from 17 matches.

Despite that, Mourinho did win two trophies with United and finished second in the Premier League in the 2017/18 season.
Now managing Fenerbahce, Mourinho told Record: “Today, I think that with the change in ownership at the club, with an owner who doesn’t have much experience in football but rather in sport.”
“What happened to Ruben, from being the manager of the worst Manchester United in Premier League history to having continuity and confidence to continue and be Ruben Amorim, is a sign that a lot needs to change.”
Mourinho believes changes are needed across the board. And Ineos have little time left before next season begins to get things right.
Mourinho calls for continued support of Ruben Amorim at Man Utd
Jose Mourinho has been a consistent supporter of Ruben Amorim since his appointment as Manchester United head coach last season.
Speaking about the manager again, Mourinho said he sees “incredible potential” in Amorim and urged the club to stick with him through the tough period.
The former United boss believes stability is crucial for both the club and Amorim to build something meaningful.
He added: “With that stability… We all agree that he’s a manager with great potential and personality. I think he has incredible potential to do great work.”
There is still belief among fans that Amorim can turn things around given time, but it will take consistent backing from the top to make that happen. Only time will tell if patience pays off this time around.
