Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos passed on a Manchester United-linked striker in favour of Ruben Amorim, and it looks like they made the right choice.
Ruben Amorim is likely to add another forward to his Manchester United squad before the summer transfer window closes in September.

The 40-year-old manager had been linked with a reunion with Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres, whom he previously managed at Sporting CP.
But any hopes of bringing Gyokeres back under Amorim’s management appear to be over, with Arsenal now leading the race for the Sweden international.
Victor Osimhen was also considered as an option for United this summer. The Nigerian striker spent last season on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli.
But United look set to miss out on him too, as Osimhen is close to making his move to Galatasaray permanent.
David de Gea’s comments back up Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd transfer stance
David de Gea wrapped up his first season with Fiorentina, a year after making his long-awaited return to football. The 34-year-old Manchester United legend joined the Italian side in 2024.
The former United No. 1 left Old Trafford at the end of the 2022-23 campaign under Erik ten Hag and spent the entirety of the 2023-24 season out on the sidelines.
After leaving United in 2023, De Gea was able to put his career back on track after signing for Fiorentina as a free agent in 2024.
De Gea joined Fiorentina during the same window that brought Moise Kean over from Juventus, with both players settling into their new surroundings together.
Kean had drawn some attention from United following an impressive first season at Fiorentina, but De Gea suggested he still has more to prove before any big move should be considered.
When asked about his relationship with Kean, De Gea told Cronache di Spogliatoio: “Very good. When I arrived, my Italian was terrible and we spoke in English. Now I’ve improved and I communicate with him more easily.
“He had an excellent season, but now, for me, he needs to have another good year, and then another, and so on.
“One good year isn’t enough; he needs to continue like this and build on what he’s done. He’s put in some very good numbers, but he needs to keep it up and prove he can do it over time.”
David de Gea’s take on Moise Kean gives Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ruben Amorim clear insight
Moise Kean scored 25 goals and provided three assists in 44 appearances for Fiorentina during his first full season at the club.
The Italian forward was signed from Juventus for €13m, a fee that could increase to €18m if certain conditions are met, amid links with a move to United.
Kean’s contract with Fiorentina runs until 2029, but he did have a release clause that was active for two weeks in July.
The clause was available from 1st July to 15th July, setting his price at £45.5m (€52m) during that period.
While there were rumours connecting him to United around the time the release clause became active, no formal bid was made by the club.
De Gea’s comments might reassure Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe about their decision not to pursue Kean immediately this summer.
Ruben Amorim is looking for a dependable striker at United, and while Kean had a strong season with Fiorentina, questions remain about whether he can maintain that level over time.
