Dele Alli is in the midst of a bit of a transfer saga at Tottenham Hotspur, and if Jose Mourinho lets him go, it’s a decision he could regret.

It’s been a very quiet January so far, but one story that has continuously been bubbling under the surface is Dele Alli’s potential departure from north London.

David Ornstein has said he wants to leave permanently and Fabrizio Romano has backed that claim up, and with just over a week to go in the window, it seems as though there could be some late movement on that front.

Alli leaving makes the world of sense, he’s a young player who isn’t getting a game at the moment, and any footballer in his position would want to be getting more of a chance.

However, if Spurs let him go, it could be something of a mistake.

Let’s not forget that Alli is a spectacular player when he is firing. He once scored 18 goals in a Premier League season and he’s a former back to back PFA Young Player of the Year winner.

Granted, he doesn’t fit into Jose Mourinho’s style perfectly, but sometimes when you have a player as talented as Alli you need to accommodate for them, something Mourinho has failed to do in the past with two of the world’s best players.

Alli is 24, and at a similar age, Mourinho was writing off the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah at Chelsea, selling them to Wolfsburg and Roma respectively.

Nobody needs reminding about what those two have gone on to do since leaving Stamford Bridge, with both men winning PFA Player of the Year awards. and largely being considered two of the best players in the Premier League.

If Alli is allowed to go, Spurs could regret this for years to come, and while letting De Bruyne go before he had proven himself at Chelsea was somewhat forgivable, it would be a lot harder to stomach selling a player with Alli’s potential when he has already proven he can do it at this level.

Perhaps Spurs’ best course of action here would be to give Alli a bit more time, otherwise, Mourinho could soon have another Kevin De Bruyne on his hands.
