Speaking on the Ornstein & Chapman podcast, David Ornstein has said that Dele Alli wants to leave Tottenham on a permanent basis.

The attacking midfielder has been linked with a loan move away from the north London club, with PSG and Everton both linked with temporary moves for the England international, but it seems as though Alli is now at the end of his tether.

Indeed, Ornstein says that Alli would like to leave Tottenham, ideally on a permanent deal, but he hasn’t written off the idea of him going out on loan.

“Well, I think Dele Alli would like to leave Tottenham, I think probably his preference would be permanent, but a loan deal would also of course be an option, perhaps a more realistic option,” Ornstein said.

“Throughout this process, Daniel Levy has showed no desire to let Dele Alli leave, who is under contract until 2024, he seems to be a fan of his. But Mourinho, less so clearly, in terms of Dele Alli and his style of play and where his role fits into Mourinho’s structure, strategy and plan for the team.

“I think PSG would definitely appeal, we know they had some loan approaches knocked back in the last transfer window.

“It will be interesting to see if they come again, I think FFP would complicate their hopes of doing a permanent deal, so could they come in and do somtheing on loan? Of course, working with Mauricio Pochettino would hold mutual appeal, and equally I think there’ll be other clubs interested in Dele Alli as well.

“It will come down to Daniel Levy, he’s the one who holds the power here, Dele Alli, I’m sure will push for a move if he’s still not playing, but Daniel Levy will have to decide if he’s willing to sanction that.”

Losing Alli permanently would certainly indicate a huge statement from Jose Mourinho.

The attacking midfielder has long-been seen as the future of Spurs, winning two PFA Young Player of the Year awards under Mauricio Pochettino, but now that Mourinho is here, the philosophy seems to have altered.

There’s no longer room for a player of Alli’s profile, Mourinho wants workhorses who will buy into his ideas, and it seems as though Alli isn’t that man.

Of course, Daniel Levy will have something to say about this, and in the end, it’s up to him whether or not Alli will stay or go, and there are still a few factors that may change things on that front.
