Jose Enrique has predicted that Newcastle United will win the Carabao Cup this season.

Newcastle booked their place in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, after beating Leicester 2-0, courtesy of goals from Dan Burn and Joelinton.

Perhaps the biggest compliment one can pay to Eddie Howe’s men is that it does not come as a surprise to see them enjoy a deep cup run.

And with Newcastle set to face Southampton over two legs in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and either Nottingham Forest or Manchester United in the final, Jose Enrique could well be proven right.

It’s fair to say that Newcastle United have perhaps been the biggest overachievers in the Premier League so far.

Before the season started, it would have been a hot take to even claim that the Magpies would finish in the top 6.

18 games into the campaign, Howe and Co. are sitting pretty in 3rd place, just 4 points behind Man City, albeit having played an extra game.

Keeping all these factors into mind, Enrique may well not be wide off the mark with his take.

Jose Enrique retorted to a tweet that asked whether Manchester United will end their 6-year trophy drought by backing Newcastle United to win the Carabao Cup.

“No, Newcastle will win the Carabao Cup”, Jose Enrique claimed.

A piece of silverware could truly set the ball rolling for the Newcastle project

Recently, Kyle Walker said that after Man City won the competition in 2018, he truly realised what it meant to win a trophy, a sensation he had never felt at Tottenham, which seems to have fired him and his teammates on to dominate English football.

The same could be the case with every player involved with the Newcastle project if they prove Jose Enrique right by lifting the Carabao Cup, as they are yet to win a trophy since 1955.
