Jorginho penalty record has become a trending topic as the Italy international joins Arsenal in a £12m deal from Chelsea.
The Gunners turned their attention to the 31-year-old after failing to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton, despite making two bids worth £60m and £70m for the Ecuador international, as detailed by Sky Sports.
Jorginho has made a name for himself in England as one of the best penalty takers around since his £50m move from Napoli in 2018, as his unique hopping technique captivates supporters.
So, what is Jorginho’s penalty record? And how does it compare to Bukayo Saka, Arsenal‘s current taker? Let’s have a look…
Jorginho penalty record
Well, the Brazil-born playmaker has taken 48 penalties throughout his career so far.
Jorginho has impressively scored 41 of those spot kicks using his trademark technique, in which he jumps just before striking the ball to deceive the opposition goalkeeper.
As shown on Transfermarkt, the new Arsenal No.20 has missed seven of those 48 penalties.

So, how does Jorginho’s record compare to Saka’s from 12 yards?
The England international had only taken seven penalties in his career so far, missing just one – which came in a friendly against the Czech Republic Under-18 side, again shown on Transfermarkt.
However, Saka missed his first penalty for Arsenal against West Ham on Sunday 16th April with the eighth attempt of his career.
The Hale End graduate had never missed a penalty for Arsenal before then, finding the back of the net from 12 yards against some of the best glovesmen around, such as Alisson, David de Gea and Edouard Mendy.
Of course, both Jorginho and Saka missed their penalties in the EURO 2020 shootout between England and Italy, but the data does not register spot kicks taken in a shootout, only those taken in normal time and extra time.
We highly doubt Jorginho will become the No.1 penalty taker so soon after joining Arsenal, but he would be a superb option for Mikel Arteta to call upon if his No.7 is injured or has already been substituted in a game, for example.
If Arsenal also find themselves involved in a penalty shootout in their quest for Europa League glory, their new No.20 could also prove to be a difference maker.
For just £12m, the Gunners have got themselves a bargain in Jorginho – to say the least.
