Tottenham Hotspur are chasing the signature of Copenhagen winger Roony Bardghji – five years since he was on trial with the club.
The January transfer window is fast approaching and we can expect to see Tottenham Hotspur making some moves.
A centre back will be a top priority in order to offer depth behind star centre backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
Ange Postecoglou may still want some attacking talent though and one fascinating rumour emerged this week.
90min reported that Tottenham have held talks with the intermediaries of Copenhagen winger Roony Bardghji.
BT in Denmark add that Tottenham are a ‘big suitor’ for Bardghji and look to be the main competition for Chelsea in the race for his signature.
Roony Bardghji was a Tottenham trialist five years ago
Tottenham will be hoping to win the race for Bardghji and may call upon some history between themselves and the winger.
The Kuwait-born wonderkid actually had a trial with Tottenham during the 2018-19 season, aged just 13 at the time.
Bardghji actually spoke to Pojk Football about his time at Tottenham and how much he enjoyed being on trial there.
“I am most satisfied with my trial in Tottenham,” said Bardghji. “Because I did very well. We played a match against Ipswich and we won 6-1, I scored 3 goals and two assists. It was a very good experience for me. I got the opportunity to see what level you have to be at to succeed,” he added.
Tottenham didn’t end up signing Bardghji back then, and it’s unclear whether that was the club’s decision or the player’s.
Bardghji instead ended up joining the Malmo ranks before heading to Copenhagen in 2020.
The 18-year-old is likely to have positive memories of Tottenham and that connection may help Spurs in this transfer race – and the influence of Johan Lange can’t be overlooked.

Johan Lange could be vital to Bardghji chase
Lange recently joined Tottenham as the club’s technical director, leaving Premier League rivals Aston Villa.
The Dane has strong ties to Copenhagen having worked as a coach, development director and technical director there.
Lange was also the driving force behind bringing Bardghji to Copenhagen, as confirmed by former Copenhagen boss Stale Solbakken.
Solbakken once told BT that Lange travelled to Malmo to convince Bardghji and his family to commit to Copenhagen.
Lange was described as being ‘persistent’ in his attempts to sign Bardghji just weeks before leaving for Villa.
Tottenham’s interest in Bardghji certainly makes sense just from a talent perspective having already hit 11 goals so far this season.
Praised as ‘exciting’ by Copenhagen sporting director Peter Christiansen, Bardghji is making a real impact whilst cutting inside from the right flank.
Spurs will always fancy players with elite potential like Bardghji and their interest shouldn’t be a surprise.
Yet when you add in that history of being a Spurs trialist and his connection to Lange, you start to feel that Tottenham really could win this race and leave Chelsea to miss out.
