With the UFC 319 main event between Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev just around the corner, Joe Rogan has shared his thoughts ahead of the fight.
Chimaev will be fighting for a title for the first time, and he will be doing it against Du Plessis in front of a Chicago crowd.
The matchup has sparked plenty of debate among fans, with some backing Chimaev’s power while others believe Du Plessis’ cardio could be the deciding factor.
This will also be Borz’s first bout in the United States since 2022. However, he has recently spoken about why he is not looking to make regular appearances in America going forward.
Joe Rogan compares Dricus du Plessis to Merab Dvalishvili
Joe Rogan is back behind the microphone for UFC 319 after missing the previous event, and he has already shared his thoughts on what to expect.
Speaking in the lead-up to the fight, Rogan drew parallels between Du Plessis and another standout name in the sport: Merab Dvalishvili.
“He’s a monster, and you know this (Matt Serra) because you work with Merab, there’s guys that reach this level of discipline and they achieve a level of cardiovascular performance that’s just above everybody else’s and then they maintain it,” Rogan started to explain.
“The amount of hard work is extraordinary to get to that level and I think Dricus is kind of a similar thing, I think that dude works so hard that he can go out and fight full blast.
Rogan did not stop there. He went on to highlight just how even the matchup could be, pointing out what each fighter brings to the table, starting with ‘Stillknocks’.
“He’s a great champion… He could definitely win it. I could see either one of these guys winning this fight. It’s gonna be interesting to see if it gets into deep water… Khamzat’s speed is a big factor with his hand speed… What he did to Gerald Meerschaert is pretty f—— scary too.
“(Khamzat) is good standing up and that’s where it’s gonna be weird, that’s where I wanna see because Du Plessis makes everyone look stupid, he finds a way to get you.”
Chimaev responds to questions about his activity before UFC 319
Recently, Din Thomas suggested that a Chimaev title win could be problematic for the UFC, given how little he has fought lately.
Dana White dismissed those concerns, saying he is not too worried about it.
Chimaev has since responded by saying that if he does come out on top this weekend, he would like to defend the belt later in the year in Abu Dhabi.
