Manchester City, Bournemouth, Southampton and Aston Villa were all linked with moves for the Swansea City youngster.
Joe Rodon has claimed that staying at Swansea City will be better for his future, despite reports of interest from Manchester City, Bournemouth, Southampton and Aston Villa.
The Swansea academy product has signed a new four-year contract at the Liberty Stadium, where he has broken through at first team level this season.
According to the Sun, Rodon’s early form, combined with a previous deal which was due to expire at the end of the campaign, had Bournemouth, Southampton and Aston Villa closely watching, while Manchester City were also said to be keen.
But speaking to Wales Online after committing his future to the club he has supported since childhood, Rodon said: “A new contract was first mentioned before the international break, I think. But it was around then and it is great to have it all wrapped up and be able to look forward to my future with the club.
“Hopefully it can be a successful future.”
He added: “It was not a difficult decision at all (to sign a new contract), really it’s something I’ve been looking and hoping to do over the last couple of years.
“It has gone my way, I am delighted to be part of this club but I know there needs to be more to come.
“Obviously, I have been taught not to look too much into things like speculation.
“It’s nice to have that sort of publicity but, this is where I play my football and this is where I have been for the last 12 years.
“So to commit to more years here is a bonus for me and my family and I believe it’s going to be better for my future.”
The Sun’s report had offered hope to Manchester City, Bournemouth, Southampton and Aston Villa, claiming that Swansea were ‘reluctant to dish out big new contracts at this stage of the season’ – with the same said to apply to another of the Welsh side’s supposedly in-demand defenders, Connor Roberts.
