The Swansea City defender’s form is said to have attracted interest from Bournemouth, Southampton and Aston Villa, among others.
Bournemouth, Southampton and Aston Vila are ‘closely watching Joe Rodon’s contract situation at Swansea City’, according to the Sun.
Rodon’s deal is due to expire at the end of the campaign, although Graham Potter, the Swansea manager admitted last month he is keen to secure the centre-back’s future at the Liberty Stadium.
The Sun reports, however, that the Swans are ‘reluctant to dish out big new contracts at this stage of the season’, with the same said to apply to another of the Welsh side’s supposedly in-demand defenders, Connor Roberts.
If true, their stance risks inviting January offers for both players, and Rodon may be intrigued by anything Bournemouth, Southampton – both of whom could offer the 21-year-old an instant return to the Premier League – and Aston Villa – who are understood to have several players on top-flight-equivalent wages – have to say.
Rodon, though, is a lifelong Swansea supporter, which could work in the club’s favour should they try to persuade him into staying.
Manchester City, reigning champions of the league in which Bournemouth and Southampton currently operate, have also been linked with the Wales Under-21 international, who played in Swansea’s 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Because of his age, Swansea are entitled to compensation for Rodon should he choose to leave at the end of his contract – but only if he is offered a new deal on at least equal terms to those he is currently on.
