Antonio Conte has made headlines at Tottenham once again following his extraordinary outburst in an interview on Saturday.

The Italian called his players “selfish” while also questioning why Spurs have failed to win a single trophy since 2008 in what was a truly remarkable moment.

Conte – according to the Daily Mail – is rumoured to have told Daniel Levy that his comments were aimed at the players rather than those in the boardroom, which the 61-year-old has accepted.

However, while Levy – the Chairman of Tottenham – may be able to accept that, Joe Lewis, the Owner of Spurs surely won’t take that claim seriously.

What’s the story?

Well – as quoted by the BBC – Conte said: “Tottenham’s story is this. 20 years there is this owner and they never won something. Why?”

That is quite clearly a comment directed at the Tottenham hierarchy rather than the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Levy might be able to brush it off – seeing as he was not directly named – but Lewis was all but mentioned apart from being named, with his efforts since buying Spurs in 2001 effectively called a failure by Conte.

Surely, the 86-year-old cannot feel as passive as Levy towards the 53-year-old’s honest comments, and is probably furious about Conte effectively mocking the lack of trophies under his reign.

Conte interview looks to have brought forward Tottenham exit

The Telegraph believe Conte is now expected to leave Tottenham this week.

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano had previously revealed that his fellow Italian is likely to leave Spurs when his contract expires in July.

However, the spectacular outburst following Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Southampton appears to have brought Conte’s exit forward, with Ryan Mason expected to take the reins for the rest of the campaign.

That may be a risk with a top four place still not certain by any means, but Conte has clearly had enough, and it is for the best that he and Tottenham go their separate ways.
