Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool do not want to sell Joe Gomez in the summer transfer window despite interest from Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur among other clubs, according to The Liverpool Echo.

The Liverpool Echo have reported that Liverpool are planning to hold talks with Gomez at the end of the season over a new contract.

However, the Merseyside club understand that it will not be easy to convince the 24-year-old England international central defender to sign a new deal given that he does not play much when everyone is fit.

Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate are ahead of Gomez in the pecking order at centre-back at the moment.

Liverpool U-turn over Tottenham target Joe Gomez

This report in The Liverpool Echo suggests that Liverpool have made a U-turn over Gomez.

The Express reported in March that Liverpool are willing to sell Gomez in the summer transfer window and value him at £23 million.

The report claimed interest from Fulham, West Ham United, Newcastle United and Tottenham in the England international centre-back.

Could a summer transfer happen?

In our opinion, if Gomez gets the chance to move to Tottenham and play regularly, then he should leave Liverpool.

Yes, Liverpool are winning trophies and challenging for top honours, but Gomez is not going to improve and develop as a player by warming the bench.

The £85,000-a-week (SalarySport) centre-back needs to play.

Gomez is 24 now, and it is important that he plays regularly at this stage of his career.
