LeBron James and Jaylen Brown will now be teammates on the Philadelphia 76ers, but that doesn’t mean past tensions between the two forwards will be forgotten.
While spectating Bronny James’ Summer League debut in 2024, Brown made it known to Angel Reese that Bronny didn’t have what it takes to be in the NBA in a moment caught on camera.
The exchange has even been referenced by LeBron in the past, who knows about Brown’s true feelings on his son’s basketball ability, with that video now resurfacing after James joined the 76ers.
Jaylen Brown dissed Bronny James to Angel Reese in 2024
Brown’s on-camera moment was wild to see, especially with Reese as the recipient, as Bronny and LeBron were already under scrutiny for using nepotism to get the younger James into the NBA.
“I don’t think Bronny is a pro.”
LeBron even openly addressed Brown’s comments almost two years later when asked about the then-Celtics forward in February 2026.
“Our relationship has been pretty respectful. Besides the s— he said about Bronny in Summer League. But other than that, we’ve been all right.”
Thankfully, this quote already addresses any potential tensions between the two stars now that they’re teammates.
Brown was a key part of the 76ers’ recruitment efforts of LeBron, participating alongside Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid to make that happen.
Brown’s opinions on Bronny might ensure that the 76ers don’t try to swing a trade for LeBron’s son after the Lakers have developed him into a real fringe rotational player after two seasons.
Bronny averaged 2.9 points on 38.6% from three last season, but proved too good for the G League after averaging 15.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while losing just three games in 14 appearances.
