Jaylen Brown outpaces Jayson Tatum’s career pace after 50-point performance for Boston Celtics.
The Boston Celtics continued their climb up the Eastern Conference standings on Saturday night, powered by Jaylen Brown’s 50-point explosion in a 146–115 win over the LA Clippers.
It was more than just a standout performance; it marked a significant shift in the Celtics’ offensive dynamics, now being led by Jaylen Brown.

Jaylen Brown averaging more points per game than Jayson Tatum ever has
For the first time in his career, Jaylen Brown is now averaging more points per game than Jayson Tatum ever has — a notable development for a team that has long revolved around Tatum’s scoring.
Through 32 games, Brown has scored 963 points — good for an average of 30.09 points per game. That figure now slightly tops Tatum’s career high of 30.06, set during the 2022–23 season.
Brown’s improved efficiency comes thanks to a stronger three-point shot and increased trips to the free-throw line.
Tatum’s 2022–23 season remains one of the most prolific in franchise history, when he poured in 2,225 points across 74 games.
But Brown’s current pace suggests he could match — or even surpass — that total by season’s end.
He now ranks fourth in the NBA in scoring, trailing only Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Boston Celtics’ balance shifting as Jaylen Brown leads scoring charge
Jaylen Brown’s rise hasn’t come at Tatum’s expense — instead, it’s added a new layer to the Boston Celtics’ offense.
While Tatum remains on the sidelines with an Achilles injury this season, Brown’s ability to create his own shot has allowed the Celtics to move away from predictable late-game isolations.
The result has been one of the league’s most efficient offenses and a Celtics team firmly entrenched in the East’s top three.
Brown’s scoring average will naturally fluctuate as the season progresses. But right now, he’s doing something even Tatum hasn’t done in his All-NBA career: lead Boston in scoring while averaging over 30 points per game.
And if Brown keeps this up, the Celtics could soon boast two players who can score at an elite level — a rarity even in today’s high-scoring NBA.
