Jaylen Brown reveals the Celtics teammates who helped him most

Jaylen Brown recently spoke about his time with the Boston Celtics in a conversation with teammate Derrick White.

Brown has been with the team since they took him third overall in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Over that time, he’s picked up four All-Star selections and a championship, and there’s likely more to come before he’s done.

He also knows none of that would have happened without the support he received along the way.

Lately, Brown has taken time to acknowledge two former teammates who helped him out during his early days in Boston.

White asked Brown to name the most impactful teammate in his nine-year career with the Celtics.

Brown could have chosen a more familiar name, like Jayson Tatum or Jrue Holiday. But instead, he went with two players who don’t get as much attention.

One of them was Gerald Green, who played in a similar role but still wanted to see him do well.

“Gerald Green, there were a lot of wing players when I first got here, so a lot of us were competing for minutes,” Brown said on the White Noise Podcast.

“Some of those other guys acted like they were helping me, but they really weren’t because I was taking their [minutes].

“Gerald Green actually really helped me. He was like, ‘You’ve got a chance to be great. Don’t listen to these other dudes. Come out here and be the best you can be.’

“Just those few words were the encouragement that I hang on to this day.”

During his time with the Celtics, Jonas Jerebko spent two of his 10 NBA seasons in Boston and developed a strong bond with Jaylen Brown during his rookie campaign.

“I like Jonas. Jonas is so cool, and when we were on the court together, he would always look for me,” Brown continued.

“Then, off the court, he would always give me some good advice on what to do with my money and investments. He was just helpful.

“I’ve had some very impactful teammates, but if I had to say two that people don’t mention a lot, it would be those two.”
