White House UFC show stole the spotlight as Trump arrived at the G7 Summit
UFC Freedom 250 was already a hit in the U.S., but it became an even bigger topic of conversation during Sunday’s G7 summit in France.
Just hours after the event wrapped up, President Donald Trump flew straight to Evian-les-Bains, where he met with French President Emmanuel Macron. Early in their meeting, Trump brought up Ciryl Gane’s interim heavyweight title win, eager to talk about how well the show had gone.
The fight card had aired overnight in France, so Macron hadn’t seen it live. But he’d caught up on the highlights and gave a quick nod to Gane, who has been pushing for his unification bout against Tom Aspinall to be held in Paris.

Speaking in front of the media, Trump congratulated Macron on the result and recapped what had happened during the fight between Gane and Pereira.
“I want to congratulate the President,” Trump told Macron and those watching. “Last night, Ciryl Gane won the fight against a great fighter, supposed to be unbeatable. Ciryl is from France. Did you watch the fight?”
President Macron admitted he hadn’t seen it live due to the timing, but had watched the knockout highlights afterwards. He also mentioned how entertaining the event looked. Trump responded by saying: “That was a great fight. It was a great evening at the White House.”
Macron also paid tribute to Gane, who has requested that his unification bout with Tom Aspinall take place in Paris, acknowledging both his victory and his growing influence in French sport.
