England batsman Jason Roy has told Sky Sports that teammate Ben Stokes has been ‘showing off’ his Tottenham Hotspur shirt – and now Roy wants something from Spurs himself.

The Ashes series resumes today in Manchester, with the score at 1-1 with two tests to play, meaning it’s all to play for, starting at Old Trafford today.

England are hoping to have picked up some momentum from the third test at Headingley, as Ben Stokes produced a heroic performance to lead England to victory.

Needing more than 70 runs to win with one wicket remaining, Stokes dragged his side to victory with a quite remarkable innings of 135 not out.

Stokes has been hailed relentlessly since that day, and one thing to come out of that incredible innings is the 28-year-old’s new relationship with Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham fans celebrated Stokes hitting the winning runs wildly despite being at the stadium to watch the Premier League game against Newcastle United, which Stokes thought was amazing.

Stokes declared himself a Tottenham fan as a result, and the club even sent him a new shirt with his name and number on the back, with Stokes admitting life as a Spurs supporter is already ‘hard work’.

Now, teammate Jason Roy has revealed that Stokes has been showing off his shirt to all his teammates, and whilst Roy has struggled in the series so far – so much so that he’s been dropped from opener to fourth in the England batting order – he hopes to make a stunning innings of his own to get some Tottenham gifts for his daughter.

“In an ideal world, you’d want one more batsman to go big with Stokesy, to push for the big 400, 450 plus totals and it would be amazing if I could contribute and get a big score in these next two Tests,” said Roy. “Even if just to see what I can get sent to me from Tottenham Hotspur; Stokesy has been showing off with the new shirt he got sent by them after his hundred, but my little girl Everly is a Tottenham fan.”

“During their Champions League game against Manchester City earlier in the year, I remember she was crying and crying and crying, and then I flicked the football on and suddenly she stopped. I said, if Tottenham win this game, she’s a Tottenham fan. She didn’t cry the whole game and, in my opinion, their run to the final was all down to her,” he added.
