Tottenham Hotspur appear to have a new fan in Ben Stokes.

Ben Stokes has been the talk of the country this week, and Tottenham Hotspur appear to have picked up a new fan in the process.

The England cricket star has been the talk of the sporting world this week, having pulled off a miraculous 135 not out to lead a seemingly impossible win over Australia.

After a dismal 67 all out in the first innings at Headingley, England needed a record 359 runs in their second innings to keep the Ashes alive – and at 286-9, it looked like England were all but done.

However, World Cup hero Stokes took the game by the scruff of the neck, getting England down to two runs to win, and when Jack Leach rotated the strike with a single, Stokes smashed a four to seal a remarkable victory.

Stokes has been hailed ever since, and whilst Leach’s work at the other end, all-rounder Stokes is understandably being billed as the country’s hero and the front-runner for the Sports Personality of the Year award.

Earlier this week, Stokes was shown a video of Spurs fans celebrating his winning runs before their game with Newcastle United, which prompted an emotional response from Stokes.

Stokes admitted that he has been looking for a football team to support, and having seen Tottenham fans celebrate wildly, suggested that he now has to be a Spurs fan himself.

Now, ahead of Sunday’s North London derby, Stokes has taken to Twitter to post a photo of his new Spurs shirt, even admitting that his first ever football shirt was a Spurs one, before joking that he’s already found out that life as a Spurs fan is ‘hard work’, with football fans from up and down the country telling him to support a different team instead.
