The Times are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur have told Southampton that they want to sign Jannik Vestergaard, a player Tim Sherwood thinks is so good that he can play for Liverpool.
What’s the story?
According to The Times, Tottenham are in talks over signing Vestergaard from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer transfer window.
Spurs have told the Saints about their desire to bring the 28-year-old central defender to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
What has been said about Vestergaard?
Vestergaard is rated very highly and is at the top of his game at the moment.
Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood is a big fan of the Denmark international centre-back.
Sherwood said last season that Vestergaard is so good that he could not believe that Liverpool did not sign him.
The Englishman said about Vestergaard on Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (30/01/21 at 1:10 pm): “I think they have missed Vestergaard. During the early part of the season, he was their best player. He was outstanding.
“I was like ‘wow, he could be the next one out of the door to Liverpool’ because they seem to sell all their player to them.”

Good signing for Tottenham?
Sherwood has managed Tottenham and Aston Villa, and he knows a quality player when he sees one.
The Sky Sports pundit thinking that Vestergaard could have joined Liverpool shows just how good the Southampton star is.
Tottenham would be a better team with the Dane in it.
Vestergaard is 28 now. This means that he is at his peak and would be able to make an immediate impact at Spurs.
