Tim Sherwood has told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (30/01/21 at 1:10 pm) that he thought the ‘outstanding’ Southampton defender Jannik Vestergaard would join Liverpool.
Liverpool have been on the hunt for centre-backs during these past 24 hours after seemingly changing their mind about dipping into the market.
During the early part of the winter transfer window, it seemed as though Jurgen Klopp was going to keep faith with what he had, but injury after injury has resulted in a change of mind from the top.
Whilst Liverpool have filled their training ground with Southampton players in the past, their new rising £18 million star [Sky Sports], Vestergaard won’t be heading to Anfield anytime soon, but Sherwood thought he could be the next one in line given his performances this season.
“I think they have missed Vestergaard,” said Sherwood. “During the early part of the season, he was their best player. He was outstanding.
“I was like ‘wow, he could be the next one out of the door to Liverpool’ because they seem to sell all their player to them.”
Under Klopp’s stewardship, Liverpool aren’t used to late Deadline Day drama, but it seems as though the Liverpool fans are going to get it in bucket loads this time around.
Only hours remain before the 11 pm deadline and those in the Anfield boardroom will be hoping they haven’t left it too late to conclude their business.
Drama isn’t far away when it comes to deadline day and Liverpool will be hoping it stays well away from Merseyside.
But Ben Davies is through the door, it’s a case of whether they can add another.
