Holger Rune’s year took a turn for the worse when he ruptured his Achilles during the Stockholm Open, forcing him out of action.

He had surgery soon after and has since kept fans updated on his progress as he works towards a return to the court.

The Dane later admitted there were things he could have handled better, but has stayed upbeat and focused on his recovery throughout.

On Wednesday, Jannik Sinner reached out with a supportive message, saying he was looking forward to seeing Rune back in action soon.

Jannik Sinner booked his spot in the Qatar Open quarter-finals with a straight-sets win over Alexei Popyrin, coming through 6-3, 7-5.

Meanwhile, Holger Rune was spotted in the stands on Wednesday, taking in the action as both Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz picked up wins in Doha.

After his match, second seed Sinner reached out to Rune with a supportive message.

“Holger, great to see you watching some tennis,” Sinner said. I really hope you have a speedy recovery.”

He added: “We all players miss you. Hope to see you soon again on tour. Big heart. Ciao ciao”

Sinner will now face Jakub Mensik in the quarter-finals. The pair haven’t played each other before, with Mensik coming off wins over Jan Choinski and Zhizhen Zhang earlier in the tournament.

As for Rune, he has continued to update fans on the progress of his injury.

Holger Rune shares encouraging update on recovery

Holger Rune has given fans another glimpse into his rehabilitation, posting a video on X [formerly Twitter] where he’s seen bouncing lightly on his toes.

“Crazy what can make you happy. Here we go. The first actual ‘jump’ since October,” he wrote alongside the clip.

Back in January, just three months after surgery, Rune had already been spotted working with a racquet again. “13 weeks since my Achilles rupture and surgery, and rehab is going really well,” he shared at the time. “Hard work seems to be rewarded step by step.”

The road back from an Achilles injury isn’t an easy one, but Rune’s outlook has remained positive throughout.

Rather than getting stuck in the frustration that often comes with long layoffs, he’s chosen to keep moving forward—and fans have taken notice of his mindset.
