Speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Liverpool’s Champions League draw against Real Madrid and Aurelien Tchouameni.
The French midfielder has been shining over in Madrid this season, but things could easily have been very different for the former Monaco man.
Indeed, over the summer Tchouameni had the choice between Madrid or Liverpool, and, unfortunately for the Reds, he chose Los Blancos.
Carragher has now discussed the fact that Liverpool missed out on the 22-year-old, and he’s compared the midfielder to a young version of Manchester United’s Casemiro.

Carragher compared the Frenchman to the Real Madrid legend.
“I think from Liverpool’s point of view it isn’t a great draw. Real Madrid have almost had our number in the past few years. If you go back to the final I was convinced Liverpool would win and I think they were a better team than Real Madrid. But in a one-off game they won the final,” Carragher said.
“Now with Tchouameni, a midfielder they brought in who Liverpool wanted, they let Casemiro go, but he’s a younger version and I think Liverpool aren’t the same. I think Madrid may be a touch better than the final last season while Liverpool aren’t the same.”
Could’ve used him
Tchouameni being compared to a young Casemiro only strengthens the argument that Liverpool really could have done with him this summer.
Casemiro has been one of the best holding midfielders of his generation, and with Fabinho faltering thus far this season, the Reds really could have used a player like Tchouameni to freshen up their midfield.
Sadly, the Merseyside club missed out on this prodigious talent, and now, he has the perfect chance to make them pay in the Champions League.
