Jamie Carragher has raved about Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson on Sky Sports Premier League (10:04pm, May 8, 2021) for his performance against Southampton.

The former Liverpool defender believes that Alisson was the best player for Jurgen Klopp’s side and was huge for the Reds.

Carragher was on co-commentary duty for the game on Sky Sports and named Alisson as the Man of the Match.

Liverpool won the Premier League game 2-0 at Anfield to maintain their chances of finishing in the top four.

Carragher said on Sky Sports Premier League (10:04pm, May 8, 2021): “I just think that the goalkeeper’s role tonight has been huge.

“I think the save at 0-0 was vital for Liverpool at the other end to get that goal and also almost like a tackle really made second half as well. Man of the match.”

The Brazil international goalkeeper denied Che Adams and Nathan Redmond in the first half and came to his side’s rescue in the second period as well.

Alisson’s performance impressed some Liverpool fans, although there was one occasion when he almost gifted a goal to Adams.

The 28-year-old has not had the best of seasons, just like Liverpool, but there are very positive and encouraging signs indeed.

Liverpool are still in with a chance of finishing in the Champions League places, and for that to happen, Alisson needs to be at his very best.

The Brazil international is still a world-class player and one of the best on the planet, and he will be crucial in Liverpool achieving success in the Premier League and in Europe in the coming years.
