Speaking to FourFourTwo (May 2021 edition, page 91), Jamie Carragher has claimed that Arsenal would have won a Premier League title if they’d signed Luis Suarez back in 2013.
The Gunners were of course very interested in the Uruguayan around that time, famously making a £40m + £1 bid to trigger a clause in his contract.
Unfortunately for the Gunners, the move never came to fruition, and Carragher believes that they would have won a fourth Premier League title if they signed Suarez at that time.
Carragher was asked who the best player he’d ever played with at Liverpool was, aside from Steven Gerrard, to which he replied:
“It’s got to be Luis Suarez. He dragged an average Liverpool team to the brink of winning the Premier League in 2014. He’s won the Copa America with Uruguay. He made Barcelona a better side. He lifts teams. I think that if he’d signed for Arsenal in 2013 he’d have won the title with them.”

This is a huge claim.
Suarez of course dragged Liverpool within a couple of weeks of winning the Premier League that season, while Arsenal finished fourth, only seven points off the top.
Arsenal played some great football that season, but their lack of a real goalscorer hampered them, and you have to feel that Suarez’s 31-goal haul that term would’ve been worth at least seven points to the Gunners, and they would have won that fourth Premier League title that they’ve been craving for so long.
Of course, it’s impossible to say with certainty, but this will certainly go down as one of football’s great ‘what ifs’.
