Jamie Carragher has stated on his Instagram story ‘it gets worse’ after footage emerged of Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst touching the ‘This is Anfield’ sign prior to Liverpool’s demolition job on Sunday.

Getting beat 7-0 by your bitter rivals in English football’s biggest game is bad enough, but somehow, Weghorst, who is on-loan at Manchester United from Burnley, made those crazy events of the weekend even crazier.

The ‘This is Anfield’ sign has always sat at the top of the tunnel when the players have been walking out – and it seems as though Man United have a Liverpool admirer amongst their ranks.

It’s the norm for the Liverpool players to touch that sign, perhaps for a few opposition players, depending on what team you play for.

There could be an ex-Liverpool player returning to Merseyside or just a boyhood fan wanting to touch that famous sign, but for a Manchester United player to do it is beyond mind-boggling.

And when Carragher reacted to that on his IG story, he simply posted three words ‘It gets worse’.

YOU COULDN’T MAKE IT UP

Around ten days ago, Manchester United were on cloud nine, or perhaps seven in this case. They had just beaten Newcastle United to win the League Cup at Wembley and they then scored a last-minute winner to progress in the FA Cup.

It was getting better and better under the popular Erik ten Hag.

But within 90 minutes on Merseyside, all of that has come crashing down, and whilst Manchester United were trying to pick up the pieces from that weekend humiliation, Weghorst has somehow made his touching of the sign a major talking point.

Whether you are Everton or Manchester United, surely it’s a massive no-no to do such a thing, but Weghorst clearly doesn’t think so.
