Jamie Carragher felt Arsenal panicked in their 0-0 draw against Newcastle United, and has advised them to compose themselves in their Premier League title race against Man City.

Carragher may well be spot on, as an animated Mikel Arteta embodied his side’s frustration on the touchline against Newcastle.

While the refereeing on the night was farcical, Arsenal seemed to lose their heads on every instance in which they felt a decision went against their way.

Newcastle, on the contrary put in snidey fouls and ran the clock down in crafty fashion, while Arteta’s side seemed to be enraged from start to finish as the pressure of the title race seemed to get to them.

For once, Arsenal were far from their free-flowing best.

But it is in those very games where eventual champions are birthed in a title race, as they keep their heads up and dig deep to get the all-important 3 points no matter what.

Jamie Carragher, much like a whole host of neutrals got the sense that Arsenal played the occasion instead of the game against Newcastle, which cost them 2 valuable points.

And now, he has had his say on the matter.

Jamie Carragher has said Arsenal should have relaxed in their high-octane affair against Newcastle, advising them to keep their cool in the Premier League title race.

“Watching Arsenal the other night [against Newcastle], I just felt they needed to relax. There’s so long in the season and when you’re talking about Man City can win so many games in a row, that’s what Arsenal have sort of done in the last, sort of 2-3 months before the World Cup.”

“I think they’ve only dropped points in 3 games, that is some going.”

“But I think Arsenal have been absolutely fantastic, they don’t need to worry because they dropped 2 points. That’s going to happen.”

“You can drop points at home and Arsenal dropped points against the best defence in the league right now, so there’s no need to panic”, Carragher said on Sky Sports, as relayed by the Mirror.

Jamie Carragher has hit the nail right on the head, as Arsenal will have to stay composed, unlike in their game against Newcastle to steer clear of Man City in the title race.
