Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have set out what they would expect from Tottenham Hotspur’s big money signing this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth for £65 million with the English side wanting the Cherries forward with Ange Postecoglou keen on signing a new centre-forward to replace Harry Kane.

Spurs have also bought Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray and the English teenager could be key for the club if they want to break back into the UEFA Champions League places.

The signing of Solanke in particular will be vital for the club to replace Kane and the Englishman netted 19 goals in the Premier League for the Cherries and will be hoping to replicate that goalscoring form for the Lilywhites.

Spurs have pulled off one of the most expensive signings of the summer in the form of Solanke and Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have set out the targets for the English forward.

“I think he has to match the goals he scored last season for him to be a success, for me,” Carragher said on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel.

Gary Neville disagreed with this and said the Englishman will be judged on how well the whole squad play, he said: “I’m more thinking of the impact he will have for Spurs, he’ll be a focal point, the pressing and I think he’ll have a big impact for Spurs.

“If he can get 13 or 14 goals this season then he would be worth the fee.”

Spurs putting a lot of faith in Dominic Solanke

When Spurs and Bournemouth were locked in negotiations for Solanke, the North London club had some alternatives in case a deal fell through for the Cherries forward.

We reported that Ivan Toney and Santiago Gimenez were targets for the Lilywhites in case they couldn’t get a deal over the line for the former Liverpool forward.

In the end, however, Spurs struck an agreement with the South Coast club. As for Bournemouth, they have completed the signing of Evanilson from FC Porto, with the Brazilian set to be a replacement for Solanke.
