Gary Lineker and Jermaine Jenas raved about Liverpool star James Milner on Match of the Day on BBC One (10:45pm, September 18, 2021) for his performance against Crystal Palace.

Former Tottenham striker Lineker and ex-Spurs midfielder Jenas were stunned by the performance of Milner in Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Palace at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday.

Milner started at right-back and kept Palace winger Wilfried Zaha quiet.

Lineker said about Milner on Match of the Day on BBC One (10:45pm, September 18, 2021): “This guy just defies Father Time, doesn’t he?”

Jenas responded: “It’s remarkable, testament to the way he looks after himself that he can just come in these types of games and perform the way he does.”

The following graphic was then shown.

Lineker said: “That’s extraordinary.”

The Match of the Day presenter concluded: “He just keeps going, remarkable professional.”

Milner is 35 now, but the former Leeds United star remains a very competitive and competent footballer.

The Englishman played at right-back in place of Trent Alexander-Arnold, and he did his job perfectly.

Zaha was brilliant against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, but the former Manchester United winger struggled against Liverpool.

Because of Milner.

Now, when Alexander-Arnold is fit and available, then Milner is not going to play.

However, as he showed against Palace, the former Newcastle United and Aston Villa star is able to simply come in any game and do a good job.

Milner made 11 starts and 15 substitute appearances in the Premier League, and made four starts and two substitute appearances in the Champions League last season.
