Darren Bent has said on Sky Sports News (1:38pm, August 14, 2021) that he rates reported Arsenal target James Maddison highly.

However, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker, who is actually an Arsenal fan, has said that Maddison has been disappointing for Leicester City in recent times.

The Sky Sports pundit has also asked why the 24-year-old attacking midfielder would leave Leicester for Arsenal given the situation of the two clubs.

Leicester have narrowly missed out on the Premier League top four for the past two seasons, while Arsenal will not even play in the Europa League this campaign.

Football.London reported this month that Arsenal are interested in signing Maddison from Leicester in the summer transfer window.

Bent said about Maddison on Sky Sports News (1:38pm, August 14, 2021): “When he first burst onto the scene and they got him from Norwich in terms of his numbers, his technique, he could create opportunities.

“You have to say last season he kind of fell off a little bit. He was in and around the England squad, it didn’t end very well. But listen, they want him to kick on.

“He is another player I really, really rate. He has been linked away with Arsenal. If you start looking at where the two clubs are, you ask, ‘Well, why would you want to leave Leicester to go to Arsenal?’”

Arsenal or Leicester City?

Leicester are doing better on the pitch right now and have also won the Premier League title more recently than Arsenal have.

The Gunners are clearly in a rebuilding phase.

However, Arsenal are a massive club and are a global brand.

The chance to play for the Gunners is tempting and appealing for any player.

Maddison scored eight goals and gave five assists in 24 Premier League starts, and scored two goals and gave one assist in four Europa League starts for Leicester last season.
