Jack Wilshere has told TalkSPORT Edge that if he was in charge of transfers at Arsenal, he would be going after Tammy Abraham. The Roma centre-forward has starred since swapping Chelsea for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Still only 24, Abraham chose to leave England and join Roma – and it is a move that has paid off. Playing 52 times last season, the England international has won back his place with the Three Lions – scoring 26 goals.

The striker fits the Arsenal category of experienced, but between the age of 20 and 25. He has already amassed a huge 251 club appearances at senior level, scoring 116 goals. He has also laid on 29 assists.

Reports state that Arsenal are keen and are even willing to sign him in a swap deal involving Gabriel. Roma rate Abraham at an eye-watering £100million. Wilshere has urged his old club to sign the England man.

“Tammy was one that was linked with Arsenal before he went to Roma,” Wilshere said. “Then he picked Roma and it has worked out for him. He’s done really well and had a chance with England which he thoroughly deserves.

“If he was to come back to Arsenal, if I was Arsenal, I would be the first team going for him. He knows England, he grew up in England, he knows the Premier League. I’d go for him, I’d give that one a 10/10.”

Arsenal desperately need a striker. Eddie Nketiah has signed a new deal but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the club in January, and now, Alexandre Lacazette has returned to Lyon after his Arsenal contract ended.

Abraham would be ideal. The London-born striker would fit perfectly not only into Edu’s transfer blueprint, but also into Arsenal’s style. The stumbling block is Roma’s price tag. Arsenal need to claw that down.

If the Gunners can orchestrate a deal in which Gabriel is included to sign Abraham it might be a deal worth doing. But it would leave Arteta short in the middle of his defence this summer.
