Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has earned praise in recent days after his late showing against Manchester United – and Jack Grealish has joined in.
Villa went to Old Trafford in search of a shock three points on Saturday, and got exactly what they wanted.
Kortney Hause’s second half header proved to be the winner, handing Villa a 1-0 victory.
There was late drama though – and that’s where goalkeeper Martinez really made headlines.
Martinez mind games
United grabbed a late penalty, and Bruno Fernandes – as has been the case in recent times – prepared himself to take the spot kick.
Martinez attempted to get inside Fernandes’ head though, telling Cristiano Ronaldo to take the penalty instead.
Fernandes stepped up and ballooned his shot over the bar, not even forcing Martinez into a save.
The Argentinian reacted by dancing in front of the Manchester United fans, making himself a hero to many away from Old Trafford.
Former Villa star Grealish reacts
Martinez’s actions have sparked praise by many, and Grealish has joined in.
The playmaker left Villa over the summer, but still watches his boyhood club closely – as seen by his praise for Matty Cash last week.
This week, Grealish responded to Martinez’s celebratory Instagram following Villa’s win.
Grealish simply stated ‘Emi you funny guy’ alongside a ‘well done bro’, clearly loving his former teammate’s antics.
