Jack Clarke became Tottenham Hotspur’s first signing of the summer on Tuesday as he signed a four-year deal with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Leeds United's Jack Clarke warms up during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Sheffield United at Elland Road on March 16, 2019 in Leeds, England.

Jack Clarke has told Tottenham’s official website that seeing the club’s new stadium in person was a stand out moment during the process of agreeing a deal with Spurs that saw the winger become Mauricio Pochettino’s first signing since January 2018.

After weeks of intense speculation, Clarke’s move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was confirmed on Tuesday, with the club confirming on their official website that the 18-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Champions League finalists. He will spend the season back on loan with Leeds United before joining Pochettino’s ranks next summer.

It is a significant deal for the club and obviously, for Clarke himself. The wide-man will be desperate to get the fans off their seats when he gets to take to the stage at Tottenham’s ground. And the wide-man suggested that visiting the place that he can now call home was a key moment as he completed his move.

“I had a look around the new stadium before I signed and it was a stand-out moment,” he told the club’s official website. “It’s a top, top stadium.

“This is such a big club. Watching the team in the Champions League last season and seeing how well they did, then with the training ground, the facilities and obviously the bunch of players that are here… they’re top players and I’m looking forward to getting to play with them and train with them. I feel like this club could really help me push on as a player and I don’t think I could be in a better environment.”

There was some frustration amongst Spurs fans when it was reported that Leeds were set to take Clarke back on loan given how long it has been since the club have made an addition to their ranks.

That frustration has probably died down somewhat with Tottenham also confirming the club-record arrival of Tanguy Ndombele on the same day in which Clarke’s move was announced.

And spending another year at Leeds could prove to be extremely beneficial for the teenager. He is surely likely to enjoy a lot more game-time as part of Marcelo Bielsa’s side, and will get a fantastic opportunity to perfect his game before linking up with Spurs next summer.
