Jamie Shackleton has completed a season-long loan move to Championship side Millwall from Leeds United – prompting Jack Clarke and a handful of Leeds players to react, including Sam Greenwood and Lew Bate.

Shackleton, 22, departs Leeds for the first time. That is, after coming through the academy to play 78 times at senior level for the Whites. Last season, though, he was largely on the fringes, playing just 14 times in the Premier League.

He has now left Leeds on loan – with Millwall confirming the news on Tuesday afternoon. It comes after the club signed Rasmus Kristensen at right-back, and Marc Roca, Tyler Adams and Darko Gyabi in the middle of the park.

The move to Millwall, who finished in a solid ninth position in the Championship last term, sees Shackleton quickly reunite with Charlie Cresswell – who is also on loan. Shackleton underlined his excitement at the move on Instagram.

Shackleton has completed Millwall move: Leeds players react

It is a brilliant move for Shackleton. If he was to remain at Leeds, the chances of him getting game time would have reduced even from last season. So, leaving Elland Road behind, even only for a season, makes sense.

With Millwall only six points behind Luton Town last season, Gary Rowett will be looking for his side to push on and reach the play-offs. Signing Shackleton and Cresswell will only help Millwall in their push for the top six.

Plenty responded to Shackleton’s Instagram post. Leeds stars Greenwood, Bate, Stuart McKinstry and more commented. As did ex-Tottenham and Leeds wide man Clarke, who has joined Sunderland on a permanent basis.
