Barry Ferguson has questioned whether Ryan Porteous would be an upgrade on Rangers‘ existing options.
The Ibrox outfit are heavily linked with signing the Hibernian powerhouse.
Porteous is out of contract in the summer of 2023 and the club are expected to sell the Rangers target next month to avoid losing him for nothing in six months.
Michael Beale already has a number of capable centre-back options, such as Connor Goldson and Ben Davies to name but a few.
And the Rangers icon has admitted he’s unsure whether or not the 23-year-old is a step up on Beale’s existing options.

He told The Go Radio Football Show: “I have always said that he has got the potential but there is always that question mark about his temperament. That’s the thing that lets him down. No doubt that he is a good player but is he as good as Connor Goldson, Ben Davies, and Leon King? I don’t know.”
Ryan Porteous to Rangers?
Whatever happens, it’s important that Rangers sign defenders in January.
Their last two Premiership victories have been by a narrow 3-2 margin.
On the one hand, three points is three points no matter how it comes but, on the other, they aren’t going to score three goals every single week and therefore there must be an emphasis on keeping them out at the other end.
Rangers have some important players to come back but even still, the addition of Porteous for depth may not be such a bad thing.
