Celtic summer target Ivan Toney has compared himself to Zlatan Ibrahimovic in an interview with The Sun, perfectly encapsulating why Celtic should have signed him this summer.

We’ve previously argued that Toney would have been a better signing than Alban Ajeti, but these comments further reinforce that view.

Toney believes he is similar to the Swedish legend both in terms of style of play and in terms of mentality.

“I’ve always liked Zlatan. I just love his confidence.  Some people see it as arrogance but you must be like that to succeed,” Toney said.

“I’m similar to Zlatan in both my confidence and the way I play. When he wants to do something, he just does it. I have some of that in my game and personality. And I believe I’ll be a Premier League striker.”

Ibrahimovic is undoubtedly one of the best strikers to play the beautiful game in the past 20 years.

Now, this isn’t to say that Toney is going to get anywhere near the level of Ibrahimovic, but the fact that he believes that he’s similar shows that he has that Zlatan-esque confidence that is such an asset for a striker.

Ahead of Brentford’s game against Wycombe, Toney has 10 goals in his first 11 Championship appearances this season, and we can only imagine what type of numbers he’d put up in the SPFL if Celtic had signed him in the summer.

The Bhoys could have had him for just £5 million, and passing up on him is a decision they may live to regret in years to come.
