According to the Daily Record, Celtic have failed with a bid for Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney.

However, the Glasgow Evening Times note that Toney actually wants to join Celtic over Brentford, in order to rejoin Gavin Strachan.

Celtic’s new first-team coach worked with Toney at Peterborough, which is seemingly appealing to the striker.

The Record state that Celtic’s £5million offer has been rejected, whilst the Evening Times claim the Bhoys have offered £4million rising to £6million.

Rangers also want Toney, but would allegedly have to sell before being able to sign him – and that money could yet come from selling Alfredo Morelos.

Brentford have moved in with a £6million offer, meaning they are leading the race, but his preference of a move to Celtic is interesting.

Celtic are looking for a new striker, and Toney could still be their man if they move quickly and offer Peterborough an acceptable deal.

The 24-year-old smashed 26 goals last season, taking his tally for Peterborough to 49 goals in 94 games as he proved himself following his move from Newcastle United.

Toney will soon have a big decision to make, especially with Brentford’s promotion fate still to be decided – and with Rangers also having to wait, Celtic could yet nip in for the striker.
