Charles Watts has suggested that Arsenal will not have £250 million to spend this summer on his own Youtube channel.
According to 90 Mins, Arsenal are ready to prepared to spend mammoth amounts on improving their squad.
But Watts is more restrained in his belief about Arsenal’s transfer budget this summer.
Indeed, while he says that the Gunners do want to invest, he doesn’t feel that they have a quarter of a billion pounds to splash on new talent.
“I’ve seen this. People are doing the maths and all that and looking at the loans which have been taken out, but I don’t think Arsenal are going to go out and spend £250 million this summer,” Watts said.
“It’s just not going to happen. They’re not going to spend quarter of a billion pounds.
“I think they are going to spend a fair bit, and the Barclay’s loan is going to help, but I don’t think there’s an overall figure on what they’re going to spend.”
Realistic expectations
Those comments may come as a disappointment to Arsenal fans, but they should also temper expectations.
Arsenal have been linked with the likes of Ben White, James Maddison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in recent times.
The trio all look like potentially exciting additions, but the Gunners are unlikely to have the funds to bring in every one of them in the coming weeks.
Arsenal will hope that they still have the money required to make them more of a force again though.
Arteta’s side could only occupy a mid-table spot last term, and there seems to be a realisation that a lot of work needs to be done this summer to turn the Gunners back into contenders again.
