Darren Bent believes Tottenham are in the driving seat for top-four despite Spurs’ 1-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, with Arsenal also suffering defeat.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, the former England international claimed that Antonio Conte’s side have fourth spot in their hands despite a weekend where Manchester United put themselves back in the race for a UEFA Champions League spot.

Tottenham suffered a late loss to Brighton as United squeaked past Norwich City at home, whilst Arsenal lost their third Premier League game in a row on the south coast at Southampton.

With only a handful of games of the season left to play, Tottenham are the favourites to secure fourth spot, and for Bent, the north London side have the quality to qualify for the Champions League for next season.

Bent said: “With Antonio Conte, they have been on a great run, Tottenham, and I expect them to do that again. Because what is it, one loss in the last five? So they can go on a run and they’re already in fourth spot.

The pundit added: “It’s in their hands at the end of the day. If they can win their games, then I think with the consistency that’s going on around them, with Man United being inconsistent and Arsenal not scoring any goals, I think it’s still in Spurs’ hands.”

The Premier League top-four race took another dramatic turn this weekend, and with Arsenal facing a daunting trip to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, Tottenham will be confident on finishing above their north London rivals.

Whilst Brighton was a slip up on Saturday, Conte has the leadership and motivational skills to rally Tottenham together to march for fourth spot, which could be wrapped up by the time Spurs face Arsenal in May.
