Liverpool legend Stevie Nicol has warned that if things go wrong for Mykhailo Mudryk at Chelsea, then they will paint the picture to be ‘his fault’ because of the current mess Graham Potter’s side find themselves in.

The Ukraine star, who had been tipped to join Arsenal for weeks now, ended up at Stamford Bridge instead and he could now make his debut against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Whilst the Reds have an FA Cup replay against Wolves to deal with first, they will then turn their attention to fellow strugglers Chelsea on Saturday.

Both teams are sitting ninth and tenth in the Premier League table this season and they are a far cry from where their supporters expected them to be at the start of the campaign.

Added to that, the duo have also brought in left-sided forwards, Cody Gakpo moved to Merseyside from PSV, whilst Mudryk joined for a mammoth fee of £89 million from Shakhtar Donetsk, as reported by BBC Sport.

Whilst Liverpool fans watch on whilst Chelsea spend nearly half a billion in less than a year, Stevie Nicol is questioning their latest transfer call, as he told ESPN.

“It’s such a double-edged sword,” said Nicol. “The kid is a good player and he looks like he could be a great player. But he’s only 21. And it’s a lot of money.

“Obviously he is going to play, but he’s coming into a team that’s all over the shop, which is the last thing you need as a 21-year-old and an upcoming talent. You want to go into a side that’s settled and doing well.

“This guy is going to stick his boots on. They are going to get beat and it’s going to be his fault. It’s a complete and utter gamble, isn’t it?!

TRANSFER MARKET HAS LOST THE PLOT

Whilst Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly plays Football Manager, it just further indicates that the current transfer market is just bonkers.

Whilst someone like Mudryk is a highly-rated talent and someone showing real promise.

The issue with the player is that he has hardly played 100 games on the domestic circuit, yet he’s being purchased for more than Mo Salah and Sadio Mane combined.

This could affect teams like Liverpool simply because when they go in for a player, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if that club references the Mudryk transfer in order to boost the fee they want, it seemingly happened with Mudryk himself, with Shakhtar citing Jack Grealish’s £100 million transfer to Manchester City.
