Alan Shearer is backing Arsenal to finish in the Premier League’s top-four ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United this season and added that he has ‘changed’ his mind.

The Premier League legend added that ‘on the evidence’ he has seen so far, he is backing Mikel Arteta’s table-topping Arsenal to secure Champions League football ahead of the new managers in Chelsea and Manchester United’s dugouts.

Graham Potter is yet to taste his first Premier League game as Chelsea boss, so it remains to be seen what type of impact he has, after the ruthless sacking of Thomas Tuchel.

Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, the pace is starting to pick up from Erik ten Hag, and after two opening day defeats, it has been wins galore since then.

Despite all of that, it’s Arsenal who are, heading into a jam-packed fixture list before the 2022 World Cup, sitting at top of the Premier League tree.

And when talking about who could possibly secure top four this season, Shearer thinks Chelsea will be replaced by their London rivals, whilst it’s Europa League football again for those in Manchester, as he told Viaplay.

“I think I might say Arsenal,” said Shearer. “It has slightly changed from the beginning of the season.

“But on the evidence, I have seen from Manchester United and Chelsea, then I think Arsenal might sneak in there was as well.”

WHO IS UNDER MORE PRESSURE?

Chelsea have just spent the largest amount of money ever splashed by a team, so that in itself brings pressure, but then again, Potter has just stepped into the dugout.

As for ten Hag, the task is to secure Champions League football, but if there is clear improvement, but still no Champions League football, then will he still be backed?

Well, given the mess the club has been through over the years, then the answer is probably yes and the patience will be there from the fans.

That probably leaves Arteta with the most pressure on his shoulders because he is comfortable in his seat, he has spent big for the second summer running and missing out on Champions League football last season was morale-sapping, so he just can’t do it again.
