Well, Steven Bergwijn is seemingly on the brink of leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

It has been heavily reported this week that the Spurs winger is finally set to join Ajax.

According to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is unhappy over some elements of the deal.

The 24-year-old is set to join the Eredivisie outfit for around £26 million but it remains to be seen how much of that is up front and how much will be paid in add-ons.

Nevertheless, it looks definite that he’s leaving.

Fabrizio Romano has tweeted out this afternoon that Bergwijn has passed his medical and has already signed a five-year contract with the Dutch powerhouse.

The Italian journalist also revealed that we’re now just waiting on an official statement from either club.

The writing has always been on the wall for the former PSV Eindhoven winger.

Despite scoring some massive goals for Tottenham last season – including a stoppage-time double in the 3-2 win at Leicester City – this is a player who hasn’t started under Antonio Conte since January.

For whatever reason, the Spurs manager has never been overly keen on starting Bergwijn and now it’s clear that the no-nonsense Italian boss clearly doesn’t rate him all that highly.

It’s a shame because Bergwijn is a different animal for the Netherlands and regularly finds the net under Louis van Gaal.

But regular opportunities, let alone goals, are much harder to come by in North London and it’s looking certain that he’ll be an Ajax player from next season which, to be honest, is best for all parties.
