Ex-Manchester United players Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay were both involved as Napoli secured a win over Juventus to keep pace at the top of Serie A.

Manchester United are still trying to climb their way back into the top half of the Premier League, while on-loan Hojlund and academy product McTominay are pushing for a title in Italy’s Serie A.

The Danish striker had been struggling to find the net for Napoli lately, but he snapped that dry spell on Sunday afternoon with both goals in a 2-1 win over rivals Juventus.

Hojlund found the net on either side of Kenan Yildiz’s goal, securing an important three points for Napoli. His display was widely praised by Italian media after the match.

McTominay is also thriving since his move away from Old Trafford, with his current form drawing plenty of attention.

Corriere Della Sera handed Hojlund an 8/10 rating for his performance, the highest given to any player on the pitch.

Their review read: “Prince of Denmark: cuts and deflects like a centre-forward in his prime; repeats with a comfortable header. He adds lay-offs and a great job out of possession. Enough to erase any concern about being a great striker.”

McTominay picked up a 6.5 rating but was labelled as ‘Braveheart’ for how he went about his business in midfield.

“He can be a catapult in the middle of the pitch and a rock on runs into the box. He comes close to hitting the target twice,” Corriere Della Sera wrote.

Il Mattino also highlighted McTominay’s determination, noting how he played through an injury to help Napoli secure three vital points against their rivals.

Rasmus Hojlund matches 2024/25 goal tally early in Serie A campaign

Hojlund was under heavy criticism last season for his lack of goals while leading the line at Manchester United.

Despite the striker’s own wishes to remain at Old Trafford, Ineos opted to part ways with him and brought in Benjamin Sesko as his replacement.

Now playing under Antonio Conte at Napoli, Hojlund has shown signs of progress early in his loan spell.

His brace against Juventus has already equalled his four-goal total from the entire 2024/25 Premier League season, and it is only November.

With Napoli pushing for another Serie A title, there is every chance he will surpass that figure well before the campaign is over.
