Alan Shearer lauded Leandro Trossard for his ‘fantastic’ finish during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Not since the Arsene Wenger days have Arsenal won on the blue side of Merseyside, but Leandro Trossard has now ended that drought.

The £27 million Belgium international (Sky Sports), who scored over the international break, didn’t start the game against Everton, but he provided that killer finish for high-flying Arsenal from the bench – Ian Wright called him ‘very underrated’.

In comparison to the first half, Alan Shearer liked how the Premier League title-chasing side changed their game, including moving the ball ‘quicker’, as he told Premier League Productions (17/09/23 at 6:30 pm).

There might be calls for Arsenal needing a 20-goal striker, such as an Ivan Toney, but Trossard is proving that isn’t needed.

Trossard himself, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, outside of Arsenal’s number 9’s, are proving that they have enough goals in them to fire their team to wins.

Trossard punishes sorry Everton

“The goal was what they needed,” said Shearer. “We said they needed to stretch the pitch and move the ball quicker. That’s what they did – it was a fantastic finish from Trossard.

“Just the way they moved the ball at pace. That was the thing that was missing in the first half. Other than trying to make the pitch bigger and they did that.”

Trossard to start in the Champions League?

With Martinelli now an injury scare after suffering a muscle injury at Everton, it has surely now opened the door for Trossard to start in the Champions League this week.

The London club will welcome Dutch giants PSV to the Emirates on Wednesday and you would think that Arteta will reward his January signing with a start.

If it happens, then it’s a deserved shot for the versatile forward because he has been a valuable asset to the team since joining from Brighton in the winter.
