RB Leipzig defender and Liverpool target Josko Gvardiol has told Danas that Chelsea wanted to take him to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2022.

The Croatia international defender, who has been linked with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the January transfer window, has claimed that Chelsea told him that they will sign him in the middle of the season.

The 20-year-old, who played at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, has added that he does not know if he will end up at former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea in January.

90min reported on December 19, 2022 that Liverpool have expressed interest in signing the 20-year-old Croatia international centre-back.

The report added that Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on the youngster, who starred at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Liverpool target Josko Gvardiol on Chelsea interest

Gvardiol said when reminded that a move to Chelsea was close in the summer of 2022: “They did not give up, but it was agreed that we would go for the winter.

“Winter has come, so we need to see what and how to proceed, but it’s okay, there’s still plenty of time, we’ll see.”

Could a transfer happen?

In our opinion, Chelsea could be able to sign Josko Gvardiol ahead of Liverpool in the January transfer window.

After all, the Blues have already laid the groundwork for a transfer.

That Chelsea told the 20-year-old that they will sign him in the January transfer window shows how much they like him and want him.

True, Gvardiol’s childhood team was Liverpool, but a move to Chelsea could be too tempting to turn down.
