Leeds United’s current managerial search isn’t going to plan, and it is impossible to predict who will be the next man to step into the Elland Road dugout.
However, there is one person who seems destined for the hotseat in West Yorkshire one day, and that’s Carlos Corberan.
The Spaniard made his name at Leeds as the U23s manager and Marcelo Bielsa’s assistant, and ever since, it’s felt like a return to Elland Road has been on the cards.
Corberan’s time at Leeds United, working under Marcelo Bielsa, was a crucial part of his development and it was also a successful time as he led the Whites’ youth side to a PL2 Division 2 title.
Corberan has been making waves since his time at Leeds, and his recent appointment at West Bromwich Albion has only furthered his reputation as one of the most promising young coaches in the country. He’s done two fantastic jobs in the Championship with Huddersfield and West Brom and his qualities have caught the attention of Leeds United once again.

The Whites were keen on hiring Corberan as their new manager after the departure of Jesse Marsch, but were ultimately unsuccessful as he chose to sign a new contract with the Baggies.
However, this rejection may only be a temporary setback for Leeds, as it seems inevitable that Corberan will eventually end up back at the club. Whether that’s in the near future or a few years from now.
Indeed, Corberan is constantly being linked with a move to Leeds, and while it’s case of bad timing right now, the right man at the wrong time will still eventually porve to be the right man.
The fact that Leeds were interested in him so soon after his appointment at West Brom shows just how highly they rate him, and it’s clear that he has a strong relationship with the club and its fans. He’s a familiar face, having worked under Bielsa, and his style of play would win over the fanbase very quickly.
It just feels inevitable that Carlos Corberan will one day manage Leeds United. He has all the attributes to succeed and it’s clear that the club holds him in high regard. When he takes charge is up in the air, but the Spaniard’s return to Elland Road feels like a matter of when, not if.
Corberan won’t be Leeds’ next manager, but make no mistake about it, we may be looking at a future Leeds boss here.
