iShowSpeed was trying to cool off after watching Lionel Messi make World Cup history, but he ended up walking straight into another reminder of the Argentina captain.

The streamer had been in the stands for Argentina’s World Cup match against Austria, where Messi scored the goal that took him past Miroslav Klose as the all-time leading scorer in men’s World Cup history.

Speed, who is well known for his loyalty to Cristiano Ronaldo, was wearing an Austria shirt during the match. His stunned reaction when Messi scored quickly went viral, but the funniest moment happened later.

iShowSpeed trolled by Walmart staff after Messi’s record-breaking goal

After the match, Speed headed to Walmart, seemingly looking to cool off after Argentina’s win and Messi’s record-breaking night

Instead, he walked into a store full of Messi shirts, promotions and cutouts, with staff also wearing Messi tops.

For a streamer so closely tied to Ronaldo, the timing could not have been worse. Speed had already been left staring blankly inside the stadium after Messi’s goal, and the Walmart scene only added another layer to the joke.

The moment worked because it felt impossible to escape Messi after a night built around his latest record. Speed left the stadium, but the reminders seemed to follow him everywhere.

Why the Lionel Messi trolling landed perfectly

Messi’s goal against Austria was historic. He had already matched Klose’s record earlier in the tournament with a hat-trick against Algeria, drawing level on 16 World Cup goals.

His goal against Austria then moved him clear at the top of the men’s World Cup scoring charts, giving Argentina another major moment in a tournament where Lionel Scaloni’s side have looked strong.

That context made Speed’s reaction even more entertaining. This was not just another Messi goal, it was the one that put him above Klose and further separated him from Ronaldo on this stage.

For Speed, Walmart was the last place he wanted to see more Messi reminders. For everyone else, the sight of staff in Messi shirts after his stunned stadium reaction was the perfect punchline to a record-breaking night.
