League One Blackpool appear to have found a replacement for Curtis Tilt, who was a target for Scottish Premiership giants Rangers in the summer
The last few weeks has highlighted a defensive deficiency that is staring Rangers in the face.
Steven Gerrard was left fuming after a 4-3 Europa League collapse away to Spartak Moscow and similarly unconvincing displays against the likes of Aberdeen and Kilmarnock preceded reports in the Express that the former Liverpool captain wanted to bring another centre-back to Ibrox in January.
Fortunately for the Glasgow giants, Curtis Tilt could be an option once again heading into the mid-season transfer window.
The Scottish Sun reported in the summer that the Blackpool centre-back was an option for Rangers, with Tilt understood to be valued at a bargain £1 million.
Now, the former Wrexham United defender is out of contract at the end of this season and it seems that Blackpool are seemingly attempting to identify a replacement with 23-year-old Exeter City defender Luke Croll a target for Terry McPhillips’ side, according to HITC sources.
The Tangerines are understood to be very interested in the former Crystal Palace youngster Croll and could make a move in January. And this could open the door for Rangers to have a tilt at Tilt once again.
After an excellent few months at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool could hardly blame Tilt if he wanted to seize a chance-in-a-lifetime move to a giant like Rangers.
Gerrard and co may be hoping that Blackpool’s interest in Croll means they are open to selling Tilt in January – or are accepting that he’ll be on his way in the summer.
