Rangers supporters have mixed feelings about the club’s tweets regarding the suspension of Kemar Roofe.

The striker has received a two-game ban after retrospective action was taken over his challenge on St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson in the recent 1-0 win for Steven Gerrard’s men at Ibrox.

Roofe’s ban was appealed by the club, which left him free to come off the bench in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Hamilton Accies, but it was confirmed on Wednesday that the appeal had been unsuccessful.

It’s a decision that has not gone down well with Rangers, who have been making calls for consistency from the SFA.

They responded to confirmation of the governing body’s decision by tweeting: “We note the outcome of today’s hearing. Rangers FC recently called for consistency in the Scottish FA’s disciplinary process.

“There seems to be real confusion within the game regarding which incidents are cited and those that are not.

“This confusion solidifies our viewpoint regarding the current system.”

That message has been applauded by some fans, but others are less convinced by the club’s response.

As quoted by the BBC, Gerrard said earlier this month: “Consistency. That is what every manager wants, a level of consistency for every player or every incident, to be judged in the same way.

“I think that will really help the league moving forward.”

He was speaking after Alfredo Morelos was handed a retrospective three-match ban following a stamp on Hibs defender Ryan Porteous.

Roofe will miss the upcoming matches against Kilmarnock and Dundee United, with the Ibrox test against Tommy Wright’s side also the final fixture of Morelos’ three-game ban.

Celtic’s 4-0 win over St Mirren on Wednesday night reduced the gap at the top of the Premiership to 18 points.
