West Ham United have been trying to lure Carlos Bacca for weeks but could a post on Instagram be the clearest indication yet he is on his way?

The Hammers have been linked with a host of top strikers this summer but have already missed out on Dutch star Vincent Janssen after he opted to join Spurs as well as Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette despite having a record £31 million bid accepted.

Slaven Bilic also failed with a bid to lure Belgian star Michy Batshuayi who instead joined London rivals Chelsea.

Since then West Ham have turned their attentions to AC Milan‘s Colombian star striker Carlos Bacca but that too has been in limbo.

Co-owners have been desperate for marquee striker signing

With the big move to the 60,000 seater Olympic Stadium on the horizon in the coming month Gold and his fellow co-owner David Sullivan have pledged to make a marquee striker signing and are willing to spend as much as £30 million on that player.

Jack Sullivan, son of co-owner David, provided a Bacca update on Twitter on Wednesday night revealing the Colombian had told the club he would give them a decision within 48 hours.

So does Bacca’s latest Instagram post give the clearest indication yet he is on his way to East London.

The striker took a selfie in front of luggage with the message (translated from Spanish): “We left, new goals, new dreams, new hopes, new season. Come on Carlos Bacca of your hand always my god.”

Striker could help Hammers challenge for Champions League

Should the Hammers pull off the marquee striker signing they have been searching for it will give the club’s fans renewed hope of a Champions League push this season.

It was only their profligacy which stopped West Ham making it into the Champions League last season as they finished just four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City with a total of 14 draws, many of which they should and could have won.

Even in many of their eight defeats the Hammers had plenty of chances to secure the win, the 2-1 defeat away at Stoke on the last day of the season offering the perfect example.

And not forgetting the Hammers are also in the Europa League – a competition Bacca’s goals helped former club Sevilla win twice in a row – which also offers the prospect of Champions League qualification.
